The Fashion Store - La Palette, designed by Firki Studio, is a stunning example of how traditional craft can be seamlessly integrated into a contemporary retail space. The design takes inspiration from traditional embroidery and uses hoops as a central element to create a visual spectacle that celebrates the craft throughout the store.
The design of La Palette draws clues from its context in the art districts of Mehrauli precinct, creating a fusion of contemporary and ethnic elements. The use of embroidery hoops as a design feature not only pays homage to traditional craftsmanship but also adds a unique visual appeal to the space.
The hoops are carefully arranged to generate a range of patterns that form visual enclosures, creating a journey through the store that showcases the beauty of embroidery. The circular form of the hoops allows for the creation of geometric patterns, including floral formations, adding depth and texture to the space.
Lighting plays a crucial role in enhancing the display of garments and replicating the geometric patterns created by the hoops. Shadows cast by the hoops create sharp textures, providing a dramatic backdrop to the gallery-like setting of the store.
La Palette, with its expertise in Indian ethnic wear, provides bespoke services to walk-in clients. The design of the store aims to connect the products in an appealing and bold way, leaving an everlasting impression on customers. Each handcrafted garment on display tells an untold story, and the design ensures that this narrative is beautifully showcased.
The entrance to the store is through a narrow passage, which opens up to a contemporary fashion studio exuding glamour and luxury. The space is divided into zones or rooms, contained within jaali partitions, each showcasing a particular range of clothing. A central display podium in black acts as a visual node, holding together the layers of spatial configurations and materiality.
The Fashion Store - La Palette is a testament to the creative vision of Firki Studio and their ability to transform simple materials into a rich Indian aesthetic. By using embroidery hoops as a design element, the store creates a unique and immersive experience for customers, celebrating the art of embroidery in a contemporary setting.
This design, awarded Bronze in the A' Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, showcases the ingenuity and resourcefulness of Firki Studio. It exemplifies the incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
